Luwero Islan

Twelve men from Calvary Chapel Kampala set out on a journey to Luwero Island last week, and returned with great success. Luwero is a unique island, not only because of its distance from the mainland (about seven hours by boat), but also because the island is inhabited by only men. Women are not allowed because the men of the island believe that if they brought women, the island spirit would curse them. There are about three thousand inhabitants on the small fishing island, and among those there are only seven Christians. Mohan Paniyur and Nehemiah Kathuthula, who led the team, reported that many people were eager to hear the gospel, and several of them were baptized. The team showed the Jesus film, installed two pit latrines, and set up a Bio-sand water filter system. They also built relationships with the men of the island, and a few of the team members have plans to return and minister there full time.

This Sunday the team from Luwero Isand will be sharing their story with us. They will present some of their pictures, and tell us what God is doing on the islands of Lake Victoria.

Prayer & Praise
  • Calvary Chapel Bible College Uganda is ready for the next semester. Pray that we would have a good transition from day classes to night classes, and that just the right people would enroll.
  • Pastor Josh and wife Natalie will be returning this month. They are in England with family. Please pray for their safe return.
  • Praise God for the At Calvary series! We had a wonderful time over the five Sundays in June. For those who missed out you can listen to the messages online or pick up a CD at the church.
  • Pray for our new Sunday morning book study. We will be going through the book of Hebrews.
