James Nyika and Dave Zavala, Calvary Chapel Missionaries in Kenya

To begin with this month we ask that you take a moment and pray for Kenya and for our sister church Calvary Chapel Nairobi. For over a month the country just to the east of us has been in a state of crisis. Intense violence sparked by recent elections, and fueled by tribal hatred has plagued the country. For more information on the problems in Kenya you can follow this link. Pastor Dave Zavala and the people of Calvary Chapel Nairobi have been able to help with the crisis through food distribution and spiritual counseling. For more on how you can get involved visit sgwm.com or frmafrica.org

Our heart has always been to plant churches. We envision Calvary Chapel Kampala as a hub to reach out in church planting ventures. Kampala, being an English speaking capital city, makes it a perfect launch pad for other Calvary Chapel churches to be established in East Africa. Uganda is also a very stable country compared to others in the region. There are already several men who are hearing the call to go out into their communities and start churches. CCK is our “Jerusalem”, and we are ready to go into East Africa, and even to the uttermost parts of the world.

Charles OkongoCharles Okongo is an example of such a man willing to take the gospel out of Kampala. Charles has a desire to start a Calvary Chapel church in Gulu, northern Uganda. Gulu has been a war zone for many years during the LRA rebel army atrocities. Now it will be a place of healing. Charles is planning to start Calvary Chapel Gulu by the end of February. Please pray for Charles.

Prayer & Praise
  • Pray for Kenya. now 900 people have been killed through the violence and tribalism. Please pray that the fighting will cease, and also remember our sister church Calvary Chapel Nairobi and pastor Dave Zavala. Calvary Chapel Nairobi is close to a major Kenyan slum, and they have been helping by distributing food and supplies.
  • Please pray for Brian and Jill Kanyike as they are in the United States for the next few months. Brian and Jill are a big part of the ministry here at CCK. Brian teaches several classes including the Foundations class, and a class at CCBC Uganda. Jill is the head of the women’s ministry at the church.
  • Praise God that pastor Brian and his family have returned safely to Kampala.
  • Pray for our new Sunday morning study through the book of Romans. The Apostle Peter said that within Paul's writings are many things "hard to understand" (2 Peter 3:15-16) This is certainly true of Romans. Pray for the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon the preacher and the congregation.
  • We have found a nice piece of property in Bukoto, a suburb of Kampala. Pray for God to open the door for this property if it is His will. Donations are being received at the church in special envelopes located by the tithe and offering boxes. You may also donate to the property and building project online at: http://frmafrica.org/support/support-project.html make sure you indicate "Calvary Chapel Kampala Property" in the which project to support line.
