Northern Uganda is quite different from the south of the country. It is not as developed, there are more villages and rural areas, and the general feeling among the people is that something is wrong. Some may wonder why the quality of life in the north is not as good as that of the south, after all, isn’t it the same country? For the people who live in Uganda there is no mystery. We know that for the past two decades the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group has been terrorizing the people. Child abduction, rape, and murder are their specialty, and their terror has made life in the north almost unbearable—especially for children.

Calvary Chapel Kampala and Far Reaching Ministries have a desire to make a difference in the north. FRM has been constructing a safe place for the night commuters—children who walk many miles into town at night for fear of LRA abduction—at an internally displaced people camp near Kitgum town. We feel it is important to meet the physical needs of the people, but spiritual need must be met too. Our goal is to plant a church in Kitgum to provide Bible study, discipleship, and a message of hope for the people of the North. Calvary Chapel Kitgum will be a place of refuge and comfort for those who have lost the joy and peace that they once had. We are confident that by teaching the Bible book by book, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse people will have a strong foundation to help them through even the most difficult storms of life.

This past week pastor Brian had an opportunity to visit Kitgum with Wes Bentley, the director of FRM, and a team from the US led by music artist Stephen Curtis Chapman. The trip helped to solidify FRM and Calvary Chapel Kampala’s desire to meet the incredible need in the north.

Please pray that God would open up the door to plant Calvary Chapel Kitgum. David Kalanzi, a member of CC Kampala, has already made known a desire to pastor the church there.

CCK is going to 2 services Sunday August 7th. Please pray that the transition would be smooth, and that God would continue to build His church.

We will have a baptism service August 13. Pray for the baptism candidates that this would be a day to remember.

Keep the upcoming October crusade in your prayers. We need to start praying that God would bring many people and that the organizers of the event would get all of the work done. The dates are October 12th-16th.
