Music is powerful. Since the beginning of time music has played a major role in shaping cultures and people. Unfortunately—though music is morally neutral—Satan has used music to advance his kingdom. He has taken sex crazed gangster rappers, with their lyrics of violence and debauchery, and brought their music to a place of worship and exaltation among today’s youth. Even in Kampala the kids are listening to Eminem, JayZ, 50Cent, and others. They are drinking it in like water, and the end result can only be destruction.

This weekend Ray White, along with a team from the United States, came against the rising tide of immoral music with a conference to build up and edify those who are working to bring light into a dark industry. Over three hundred gospel artists, music ministers, and kids looking for a fun time came out for the two day conference at CCK. Eleven artists shared their music and talent with the crowd. They rapped, danced, and sang to let people know that there is real talent among those who are not willing to compromise the message of Christ. “One, two, three, four, five, six, seven / pick up Jesus and you’ll shine like heaven…” Pure Souls, a rap group from CCK sang. And shine they do. They are currently working on their second album and played on several of Kampala’s biggest radio stations.

After the music Pastor Ray gave some very practical teachings on how to be successful in the music industry. He covered topics such as how to minister in the midst of a secular music scene while still maintaining your integrity and witness for Christ. He also talked about the importance of making a name for Jesus instead of trying to make a name for yourself. Issues of personal purity, and daily prayer were also discussed. At the end of the conference there was a time for questions and answers from the crowd. Some of the questions were very profound, and even inspiring. One girl, who was also one of the artists attending, asked how she could keep from becoming discouraged, and how she should balance playing to make the people enjoy the music, while also playing to glorify Christ. After the event many people came to pastor Ray White and Pastor Brian Kelly expressing thanks for the great conference, and asking when the next one would be. God did a phat (rap term for ‘good’) work!

Praise God that ALL of the boxes containing the music equipment and sound system arrived safely! We want to glorify God for this great answer to prayer.

Remember to keep in prayer the crusade that we have planned October 12-15 with Maranatha Chapel. Pray that God would help us to get everything prepared for that.

August 7 we will be going to two services at CCK. First service will be at 8am and second will be at 10am. This is a big step, and we need your prayers that this would be a good transition.

Continue praying for Anne as she leads worship at CCK. Pray that God would fill her with His Spirit, and that she would play skillfully.
